MONTREAL

For our 3 year anniversary, my boyfriend Liam and I decided to take an early trip to Montreal during the Labour Day weekend.

Rather than spending money on gifts, we chose to put the money towards a mini vacation to Montreal, Quebec. I think it was one of the best gifts and time together that we have every spent. Not only did we get to travel to a new city, but we also got to experience it together and make memories that will last us a life time.

I had only been to Montreal once before with girlfriends, and this was Liams first trip. Our itinerary was left to me aha, so I'm going to share it here in case anyone out there is planning on going.

In Montreal, we stayed at a Airbnb rental in Le Plateau. While the place was small, it was quaint and had everything we needed for our weekend getaway. I highly recommend Airbnb and would use the site next time I travel. It's budget friendly (no matter what your budget is) and a fun experience compared to just staying in a hotel.

We also traveled there by train, which was a challenge right from the get go. For starters we arrived at night, so it was very dark and made it a little more difficult to navigate in a city we barely knew. And then we had to figure out where the metro was in order to get to the Airbnb.

After some google mapping and wandering around kinda aimlessly, we eventually got on the metro and got the keys to the Airbnb.

Right away we went out for dinner, at a hip place near by - Pizzeria Romeo (http://pizzeriaromeo.com). For some reason, whenever Liam and I happen to randomly pick a new restaurant to try it ends up being a pizza place. However this place was totally to die for, and not your average pizza place. That being said both of us barely new french, and totally forgot that everything in Montreal is in french aha. We managed to get by and the servers were very friendly and hospitable to us, and the food was delicious.

The next morning Liam and I headed out for breakfast at Cocoa 70(http://cacao70.ca/en/). This restaurant has always been a first choice (usually for dessert aha) and it never disappoints. What I believe makes a good breakfast place is when there are really good sweet and savory options.

After a big breakfast we walked over to Mont Royal and Parc-du Mont Royal for an afternoon hike. It was quite the trek in the hot summer sun, but we made it to the top. The view was beautiful and totally worth the sweat!

Once Liam and I finished exploring Mont Royal we grabbed a quick lunch, and then caught the metro over to Old Montreal and Old Port.

Old Montreal was filled with so many fun shops and beautiful architecture to explore. We enjoyed window shopping and taking lots of pictures of this beautiful place.

Old Port was breath taking as well, and as we walked along the water Liam and I scouted out a place to eat for dinner. We even got to see Habitat 67 from afar!

For dinner we decided to check out Jacks Saloon (http://jacksaloon.com/)for the first time. To be even more adventurous we tried a new dish, tar-tar - which is raw meat! Skeptical at first, but dinner was absolutely delicious and we can't wait to try recreating this dish by ourselves one day.

Then we sauntered on back to our airbnb to rest up for the next day of adventures.

We started off our second and last day in Montreal right by having another fabulous breakfast. This time we tried Une Crepe (https://www.facebook.com/UneCrepe), a quaint little spot with delicious crepes!

One of my favourite things about Montreal are that most, if not all, restaurants are open to the streets. Getting to enjoy a view of the city while eating good food is something I'll never forget.

Before taking the train home, we strolled around Le Plateau checking out cafes, shops, and parks.

This mini vacation with Liam is one I will hold near and dear to my heart forever. It was an amazing experience traveling around Montreal and learning the ins and outs of the city, with a guy that I love. I would definitely go back for a longer stay and see more sights. It was an incredible experience to travel together, learn how to navigate together, and rely on one another. So here's to going on 4 years! I can't wait to see where we go next year. xo
