EXPLORE: CALABOGIE // MANITOU MOUNTAIN TRAIL & RED ARROW ROCK LOOKOUT

Last weekend Irwin and I took advantage of some of the gorgeous summer weather Ottawa's been having. We drove an hour to Calabogie to the Manitou Mountain Trail for a day of hiking.

We started off our hike at the Barrett Chute trailhead heading towards the Red Arrow Rock Lookout. It was a beautiful sunny day with a high of 16 degrees! There was still a lot of snow on the ground, so the barely marked trails were quite the trek and we were slipping around quite a lot in our runners. I definitely need to look into getting myself a pair of hiking boots. We still enjoyed our slippery hike through the woods regardless and hiked to the lookout.

The sky was blue and the sun was warm. We enjoyed our lunch atop Manitou Moutain taking in the views of Calabogie.

Overall we did a 6 km hike in about 2 hours to Red Arrow Rock Lookout and back to the trailhead. If I didn't have to work that same evening I'm sure we would've made a day out of this trail. Hopefully we can come back here in the summer once the snow has disappeared and the ground has dried up for another hike. We really want to check out the other look outs like Eagles Nest, so I look forward to hiking these woods again soon!
